As summer winds down and fall quickly approaches, it’s the perfect time to pause and take a closer look at our relationship with God. Just like the seasons change, our spiritual lives need fresh rhythms and renewed focus. September is often referred to as “Back to Church Month,” serving as an excellent reminder to return to the heart of community and fellowship with God’s people.
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 10:25: “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” God knew we would need each other. Faith is not meant to be lived out in isolation; it grows stronger when we walk together.
I know we all live busy lives. School starts up, schedules get packed, and it can feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. But here’s the truth: we make time for what matters most to us. Matthew 6:33 reminds us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When we put God first, even above our busyness, we find that He gives us the strength, peace, and order we need for the rest of our lives.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s tempting to think: “I’ll just watch a service online.” While online messages can be helpful, they’re not the same as being part of a living, breathing church family. Being present matters. In Acts 2:42 we read that the early believers “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” The church is God’s design, a place where we worship together, encourage one another, and are equipped to reach the world around us.
And here’s something powerful: the church isn’t just for us, it’s also for those who don’t yet know Jesus. Statistics show that 82% of the unchurched say they would attend if invited, yet only 2% of Christians actually extend an invitation. That should challenge us. Jesus said in Luke 14:23, “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” If we don’t reach out, who will?
If you’ve been away or your schedule has gotten off track, now is the time to come back. Church is where you’ll find encouragement when you’re weary, clarity when you feel distracted, and strength when you’re weak. It’s where you’ll freshly encounter God’s presence.
So, let me invite you: join us this September and get “Back to Church.” You’ll be glad you did, and someone you invite just might meet Jesus for the very first time.
Mark your calendars for our special Church Anniversary Service on Sunday, September 21. We’ll gather at 10 am to celebrate God’s faithfulness and enjoy refreshments together after the service.
Let’s start this new season strong, with God at the center and His house a priority in our lives.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the church. Thank you for providing us with a place to worship, be encouraged, and grow together. Forgive us when we’ve let busyness or distractions take priority over You. Help us to put You first in every area of our lives. Stir our hearts to invite others, to love the lost, and to be faithful in gathering together. As we step into this new season, let us draw closer to You and closer to one another. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
