When you go to a restaurant and the server comes to take your order, they will often say something like, “What can I get you today, or do you know what you are having?” It’s up to us to say something, tell them what we want. God is the same way.
Isa 30:18 - Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore, He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.
Sometimes we get things backwards. We often think we are waiting for God to do something. We ask in prayer and wait around for something to happen. The Bible tells us that when we pray, we are to believe. It’s the believing that moves the hand of God. God wants to do great things in your life, but you must believe.
Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
When you order something at a restaurant, do you pace the floor and worry about whether they will bring it? No, you know you asked, and you trust they will bring it out to you. Shouldn’t we have the same kind of trust and faith in God? When we pray according to His Word, we look at the many promises in the Bible and ask Him to help us in an area.
John 15:7-8 - If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so, you will be My disciples.
We never want to pray outside of the Word of God, just like you wouldn’t order something in a restaurant that wasn’t on the menu. So, decide what you want from God and go to the Bible to get His word on it. Allow His Word to get into your heart, or in other words, get to the place where you believe what God has said.
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Pray, ask God, and then trust Him. Know that what you have asked for is on the way. Thank Him for it. Give Him time to bring it to you. If you start to wonder if He is going to do it, take time and remind yourself of what He has said, go back to His Word, and thank Him again for doing it for you.
God is faithful to His Word; He will do what He has said if you believe!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you that I can come to you in prayer and ask for your help. I thank you for the many precious promises in your Word, you said your promises are Yes and Amen. I thank you that when I ask and believe, I will receive. I give thanks and praise to your name! In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
