Learning to Fish

Matt 4:18-20
And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. NKJV

The disciples heard the call and left their nets.  Sometimes in life God will ask us to do something and we must be open to putting down what is in front us and be willing to go and do what He tells us.

The Word of God says that we are all called to be fishers of men.

Here is a great illustration, if you like to fish.  Many people have a special spot where they like to fish and they will use a particular kind of bait to catch the fish.  Many times they even know what kinds of fish they are looking for.

It’s no different with the kingdom of God.  We must be skillful fishermen.  God can direct you to just the right spot to look for fish; He will give you just the right words to say that will hook them in.  Our job is to be willing and to be aware of opportunities that God will bring our way.  When we follow Jesus, the Bible says He will make you a fisher of men.  You will never have to worry about not catching a fish if you are following the leading of the Lord.

Look for opportunities in your life to reach others with the Good News of the Gospel.  Share with others the good things that God has done in your life.  Be a fisher of men!

As always, know that you are loved and cared for today. Invite someone to church this weekend and see what God will do in their lives.
