Call to Prayer
for the Nation & Elections

With the upcoming Presidential election as well as many local elections, we need to pray now more than ever. There are so many sides to this election and our next leaders face many challenges. Our nation needs healing, a healing that can only come through fervent prayer. As Christians, it’s our job to pray.  We have put together a little guide for you, of course, feel free to add to what we have suggested, the important thing is to pray. We are asking that you join us and set aside time each day from now until Election Day, and even in the days after, and commit that time to specific prayer for our leaders and our nation.

The apostle Paul instructs us to pray for those in authority over us.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4

Why should we pray for the elections?

  • The Bible commands us to pray for those who are in leadership, which would include those who are vying to become leaders.
  • Godly leaders can make a big impact in every aspect of society.
  • Godly leaders can bring a blessing on our nation – Proverbs 14:34

Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors, there is safety. Proverbs 11:14

We get to be a part of deciding who gets to lead our nation and also who will advise our leaders.  Ultimately their leadership will have a direct impact on us.

What should we pray for?

The Election Process

Pray for a safe and fair election.  Ask the Lord for protection for the candidates from those that would seek to change or alter the outcome.  Pray for a great turnout of voters that have asked God for His wisdom in their decision making. Proverbs 3:21-23

The Candidates

Pray for the salvation of our current and future leaders.  Ask God that those in leadership would not seek their own selfish ambition. James 3:16 says, “For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.”  We can also ask God to surround our leaders with Godly advisors and know that He can change the hearts of those in power.

Pray that the candidates will take brave stands for righteousness, even when it may not be well received. “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all” Isaiah. 7:9

The Church

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Pray for the church to humble themselves before God, turn from evil, and seek Him.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves, do what it says. James 1:22  Pray that the church would act and do what God has said.

As believers, it’s our responsibility to pray.

  • We are God’s voice in the earth. Matthew 5:13-16
  • Prayer makes it possible for God to move in our lives. 1 John 5:14
  • God said he would answer our prayer. Matthew 7:7
  • If we don’t pray who will? 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
