Philippians 4:6-7 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Believe it or not, peace of mind is still a choice we make, especially at Christmas. This season can be full of joy, but it can also bring pressure, expectations, and reminders of things we wish were different. Yet the message of Christmas is this: Jesus came to bring peace. Peace might not feel like an option in your life right now, but when you choose it, God supplies it.
The Bible tells us to “be anxious for nothing.” That isn’t a seasonal suggestion or something we practice only when life is calm. God invites us into a life free from worry and fear because those things choke out the very peace He sent His Son to bring into our world.
When you choose to think on the right things and refuse to let anxiety lead the conversation, the Bible says the peace of God will guard your heart and mind. Christmas reminds us that peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of Jesus right in the middle of them.
So how do we actually lay down worry and anxious thoughts? The primary way is still prayer. When you pray, you hand those concerns over to God and trust Him with what you cannot fix. True prayer always involves faith.
Mark 11:23–24 – For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
When you choose to believe as you pray, you can release worry because you know God is already moving on your behalf.
You can’t rehearse your problems all day long and expect to walk in peace. Set your mind on the answers God has promised. When negative or fearful thoughts try to steal the peace Jesus came to give, stand firm in faith and remind yourself of His Word.
Hebrews 10:35–36 – Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.
Guard your thought life. Speak to the mountains in your life. Remind yourself continually that God is faithful and will do everything He has promised.
At the end of the day, only you can decide whether you will walk in peace or not. Christmas peace is not automatic; it is chosen, and it begins in your thought life.
God even gives us a guide for what to think about:
Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I choose to receive Your peace in my mind and heart today. I set my thoughts on things above, and I put my trust and hope in You alone. Help me handle every fearful or anxious thought. Thank You that I can ask for Your help in prayer and be confident that You will answer. Thank You for Your Word that strengthens my faith. Thank You for being a faithful God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
