Let God Help

By Pastor Bob Claffey

When I was a little boy my mother used to ask me: “Bobby, what do you want God to do for you? Ask Him and He will do it.” I learned as a child that I had to ask God to help me in my life and if I didn’t ask God, He could not help me. This is such a simple truth, and if we could remember it as we get older and stop overcomplicating things we could save ourselves a lot of stress.

I have been a pastor for many years and people have come to me at times of need and want me to pray so that God could fix things in their lives. I am always happy to pray for others, but I think that we all need to learn how to let God help us in our lives.

Jeremiah 33:3 – Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. NKJV

What do you need God to do for you? The Bible says that we are to call out to Him.  Ask God to meet your needs.  Trust and believe in Him and He will help you!

Sometimes we try to figure things out in our minds using our intellect. We do not know what to do or which way to go. We worry and feel stressed as the pressures of life come upon us.  God always has the answers to the questions in our lives, but we don’t get those answers from God just because we need them; answers come when we ask for them.  We must also believe that God wants to help us when we ask.

We serve an awesome God who is full of power and wisdom and God is waiting on you.  God will never force Himself on anyone; He is waiting for your permission to intervene in your life.  Invite God to help you with whatever is going on today.  Allow God to change things, to help you, and to bring His provisions into your life. You must take the first step and ask Him for help.

Matthew 7:7-8 – Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. NKJV

God is on your side, the Bible tells us that He is for us, not against us.  God is not withholding things from you to make your life miserable; He wants to give to you!  For that to happen you must ask and believe that He will. The best way I know how to do that is by going to the Word of God and finding scripture to use to ask.  The Bible is full of many promises to us for provision, healing, guidance, peace, and so on, the list is endless.  Find a scripture to use in prayer.  You are not using the scriptures to convince God to do something for you.  You use it so that it reminds you that He will.

Let me give you an example of how to ask for help using a scripture:

Philippians 4:19 – And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. NKJV

God desires to meet your needs, so when you pray and ask Him to supply your needs and speak out His Word.

Prayer: Lord, you said that you will supply my needs according to your riches in glory. I am asking that you will meet my needs (be specific) ________________________________.  I thank you that it’s mine now because you are a giver and when I ask I receive. Thank you for helping me when I ask, in Jesus name I pray, amen.
